Beginner and Intermediate Classes
3 Year Olds

Our 3 year olds are in Starfish classes.
Beginners are Shiny Starfish. Intermediates are Silver Starfish and our most advanced 3 year olds are Super Starfish.
We include daily themes like Cowboy Day, Pirate Day and Fairy Tales Day to bring entertainment to swim lessons.
Our 3 year olds are much more cooperative and less frightened when they are having fun in their swim lessons. Parents are not in the water with the 3 year old classes.
The student teacher ratio for these classes is 4 to 1.
Shiny Starfish
This class is designed for our beginner 3 year olds with no swim experience. Skills and lesson are taught using fun themes and games at a pace that the students enjoy. The students will be working toward establishing breath control and submerging. A great combination of fun and challenges, this class creates a base skill set to build on as our students move into the intermediate and upper levels.
- Prerequisite: None other than being 3 years old
- Final Goals: Spotted frontfloat with bubbles, backfloating, independent swim of 5 feet, and splashy kicks
Silver Starfish
This class is the intermediate level for 3 year olds, and is typically taught with the Super Starfish as a combined level.
To be placed into this class, students MUST be comfortable in the water, floating and swimming with their face in and using proper breath control techniques. This challenging class for 3 year olds still involves age appropriate daily themes. The focus of this level centers around breath control and the transitional skill of the rollover breath, which is used for the student to gain a breath on their own.
- Prerequisite: Swims 5 feet, comfortable facefloat and backfloat
- Final Goals: Independent facefloat and backfloat, swims 15 feet with a rollover breath
Super Starfish
This level is taught to our most advanced 3 year olds, and typically taught combined with the Silver Starfish class. In this level we begin to challenge the gross motor skills of our students. Presented with both mental and physical challenges, our teachers add in arms to their swims, while the students maintain their independence and comfort in the water.
- Prerequisite: Swims 10-15 feet and rolls to backfloat, independent facefloat and backfloat
- Final Goals: Faceglide, Back kicks, swim 20 feet with an independent rollover breath, windmill arms.
4 and 5 year olds

4 and 5 year olds progress from our Rosie Red Fish classes for our beginners and after they are comfortable in the water and start to move through the water they are promoted to the Purple Parrotfish classes. These classes take a child from having no skill to being able to swim across the pool and get a breath by rolling to thier back and continuing to swim. These classes still use themes to engage children the their journey of learning to swim.
Rosie Red Fish
This level is for our beginner 4 and 5 year olds with no swim experience. Gentle submersion techniques are taught after breath control is understood. Similar to our beginner 3 year old class, this level is a combination of fun themes and games while challenging them with new swim experiences and skills. The fundamental swim skills taught in this level are essential to the process of learning to swim.
o Prerequisite: None other than being 4 or 5 years old
o Final Goal: Spotted frontfloat with bubbles, backfloating, independent swim of 5 feet, and splashy kicks.

Purple Parrotfish
This class is for our intermediate 4 and 5 year olds who pass out of our beginner classes. Because it is taught as a dual level class (Purple Parrot I and II), A LOT of skills must be mastered to pass out of this class. As an intermediate class, the focus is on independence and breath control in the water while extending the swim distance and developing the coordination to gain independent breaths while swimming.
- Prerequisite: Swims 5 feet, comfortable facefloat and backfloat
- Final Goals: Independent front float and backfloat, faceglide, swim 20 feet with an independent rollover breath, windmill arms, and back kicks.
6 Years and Older

The beginner class for the 6 and older children is the Yippy Yellow Tang and they progress to the Golly Green Guppy. Our background is in early childhood development and we feel it is important to work with the older children in a seperate group.
An older child may not like being the class with younger children and they also possess more mature motor skills so these children when they get over any initial anxiety tend to progress quickly.
Yippy Yellow Tang
This is our beginner class for every student 6 years old and above. Breath control and floating techniques are taught from start to finish, as well as an independent swim of 10 feet. Those skills form a solid foundation to build upon in our upper levels. This class combines fun in the water with skill progressions necessary to progress through to our intermediate level.
- Prerequisite: None other than being 6 years or older
- Final Goal: Swims 10 feet, comfortable facefloat and backfloat
Golly Green Guppy
This level is our intermediate class for students 6 years old and above. Typically taught as a dual level (Golly Green Guppy I and II), A LOT of skills must be mastered in this level from start to finish. Centering on breath control techniques and independence, these students extend their swimming distance while working on propulsion techniques and achieving independent breaths.
- Prerequisite: Swims 5 feet, comfortable facefloat and backfloat
- Final Goals: Independent front float and backfloat, faceglide, swim 20 feet with an independent rollover breath, windmill arms, and back kicks.
